Hello anime enthusiasts! Do you enjoy Studio Ghibli anime releases? Hi, we’re on the same page. I absolutely love Studio Ghibli anime. This time, I’ll recommend some Studio Ghibli anime that I’ve watched.
1. Ponyo
The story revolves around a fish-child named Ponyo, who is the offspring of a goldfish princess that has long yearned to become human. During her escape from the underwater realm, she is discovered by a young boy named Sousuke. The film is an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic children’s tale, “The Little Mermaid.”
2.My Neighbor Totoro
The story follows two sisters, Satsuke and Mei, who move to a rural area with their father to be closer to their mother, who is hospitalized due to illness. They reside in a house near a forest, teeming with mystical creatures. One of the beings they encounter is Totoro, a large, furry creature. The film, directed by Hayao Miyazaki, was released in 1988.
3.Spirited Away
The story revolves around a girl named Chihiro who accidentally enters a spirit world filled with magical creatures and spirits. Her parents have been transformed into pigs after eating at a mysterious restaurant in the spirit world. Chihiro ends up working at a bathhouse owned by the malevolent witch Yubaba while seeking a way to save her parents and return to her own world.
Throughout her journey, Chihiro encounters peculiar creatures and befriends a mysterious boy named Haku. The film has won various awards, including the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2008.
4. Kiki’s Delivery Service
The story centers around a young girl named Kiki, a 13-year-old witch who must undergo the tradition of living alone for a year to hone her magical skills. Kiki is accompanied by her magical black cat friend named Jiji. She moves to a small town near the coast where, to sustain herself, Kiki establishes a delivery service using her broomstick. Throughout her adventure, Kiki encounters various characters in the town.
5. Princess Mononoke
Released in 1997, set against the backdrop of Japan’s Muromachi era, the film tells the story of a young man named Ashitaka who becomes cursed after defending his village against a cursed boar. Seeking a cure and understanding the origin of the curse, Ashitaka decides to journey into a forest inhabited by spirits and gods. In the forest, he encounters giant forest spirits and comes across Princess Mononoke, a young girl raised by wolves.
6. The Wind Rises
The film was released in 2013 and exhibits a more mature tone compared to previous works from Studio Ghibli. It narrates the life of Jiro Horikoshi, a renowned aircraft engineer who designed Japanese fighter planes during World War II. The story delves into Jiro’s life, including his first love with a girl named Naoko. Despite Jiro’s obsession with creating aircraft of beauty and sophistication in the aviation world, he grapples with a moral dilemma as the planes he designs will be used in war.
7.Howl’s Moving Castle
The story revolves around a girl named Sophie who, inadvertently, falls victim to a curse that transforms her into an old woman by an evil witch. Seeking a cure, Sophie enters the magical world full of mystery and encounters Howl, a young wizard with a moving castle. Sophie then takes on the role of a housekeeper within the walking castle. The film, directed by Hayao Miyazaki, was released in 2004.
